What Video Do Your Kids Watch In Class?

Recently at dinner, I asked my two daughters, Amelia (6th grade) and Olivia (5th grade), about what video they watch in the classroom and how. Amelia said that this school year they have watched a few “Bill Nye The Science Guy” shows. Her teacher uses an overhead projector from a computer and displays the video on a screen that the teacher pulls down in the front of the class. She likes Bill Nye since he is so silly. Olivia said that every week there is a live video broadcast that is produced by the “News Crew” from the library. This is a journalism club that learns about how to write news copy for television (or online) and broadcasts it live via streaming video across the school network.

I am amazed that 5th and 6th graders are learning to create and broadcast their own live video news programs. Also I wish I was able to watch Bill Nye when I was a 5th grader. As I recall, we had film strips with a record player for audio. Ding! “Next Slide!”

Please ask your kids about what video they watch in their school and post a comment about it here.
